Articles and insights
Perspectives on the energy transition.
In this section, we share articles, case studies, and insights from across OX2. From renewable energy trends to lessons from our projects, our aim is to contribute to the conversation and share what we’re learning as we help accelerate the shift to sustainable energy.

How a wind farm can support biodiversity and the local community

OX2 in Poland as a partner of the Soil Carbon Bank project, explores how different management methods impact the carbon sequestration of the area by capturing carbon dioxide from the atmosphere and retaining it in the soil.

In connection with the development and construction of the Kraśnik Wind Farm in Lubelskie, Poland, OX2 has taken the initiative to protect Europe’s largest owl, the bubo bubo.

As Director of Power Markets and PPA at OX2, Olli Hagqvist structures and negotiates long-term power agreements with hyperscalers and other major corporates. As demand for renewable energy grows, these large companies are increasingly turning to long-term Power Purchase Agreements (PPAs) to secure reliable, clean electricity.

In less than ten years, batteries will become the second largest source of dispatchable energy after hydropower, according to the International Energy Agency (IEA). The development of grid-scale battery storage is going much faster than most realize.

Meet Lars Haavik, OX2’s new Head of PPA (Power Purchase Agreements) Origination. With over a decade of experience in PPA origination, he joins to lead and grow a business area that’s expanding as we increasingly own projects and sell electricity as an independent power producer.

Efforts to reverse biodiversity loss and increase climate resilience have led to OX2 focusing on practical action across multiple project sites: reviewing the location, dimension and design of culverts.

Construction of the Niinimäki Wind Farm in Pieksämäki, Finland, began in 2022, with turbine assembly starting at the end of September 2023. All turbines have now reached pre-assembly height, and the first five have been erected to their full height of 250 meters. Once complete, the wind farm will feature 22 turbines with a total capacity of more than 145 megawatts.

In connection with the development of onshore wind farms, OX2 has taken the initiative to restore and protect forest ecosystems.
