About the project

Energy storage plays a key role in the electricity system of the future. OX2 is developing battery storage project Bredhälla BESS (Battery Energy Storage System) in southeast of Sweden. Bredhälla BESS is a battery storage facility with a capacity of approximately 40 MW and is located near two of OX2’s wind power projects.

Construction and installation is ongoing during fall 2023. In the beginning of 2024 Bredhälla will be connected to the grid.

The project is located in Uppvidinge municipality, approximately 7.5 km south of Åseda and directly adjacent to E.ON's substation. The project will deliver ancillary services to Svenska Kraftnät, the state-owned transmission system operator, and thus help stabilize the electricity grid. By storing electricity (arbitrage) when there is a surplus and selling when there is a shortage of electricity in the grid, the project contributes to increased security in the electricity supply in southern Sweden.
